Compatible native Linux ports may run through PortMaster or firmware-specific port packages.

ROM MANAGEMENT

ROM & BIOS Locations

ArkOS generally stores game folders inside the ROM partition. When the card is viewed on Windows, macOS or Linux, this game partition may appear as EASYROMS.

1
Open The Game Partition Connect your game MicroSD card to your computer and open the ROM / EASYROMS partition.
2
Find The Correct System Folder Place games in the folder belonging to their console, such as gba, nes, snes, psx or n64.
3
Add Required BIOS Files Where required, BIOS files generally belong in the BIOS folder inside the ROM storage structure.
4
Safely Eject & Refresh Safely eject the MicroSD card, insert it into the R36S and restart or refresh your game list.
BIOS FILES

When Is A BIOS Needed?

Some emulators can run without an external BIOS, while others work better or require system firmware files. BIOS filenames and checksums can be emulator-specific.

PlayStation A correct PS1 BIOS can improve compatibility and accuracy.
Neo Geo Neo Geo ROM sets commonly rely on compatible BIOS files.
Disc-Based Systems Some Sega and other disc-based platforms may require BIOS files.
i
Use Your Own Firmware Dumps Use BIOS or firmware files you are legally entitled to use.
PERFORMANCE NOTICE

More Demanding Systems

The RK3326 is excellent for older systems, but later 3D consoles can push the hardware harder. Emulator, firmware and per-game settings matter significantly.

Nintendo 64 GAME DEPENDENT

Some titles run very well while others require different emulator options, reduced accuracy or frameskip.

Dreamcast GAME DEPENDENT

Lighter titles may be very playable, but demanding 3D games can have slowdowns or graphical issues.

PSP GAME DEPENDENT

Many 2D and lighter games are playable, while demanding 3D PSP titles can require reduced settings.

Sega Saturn LIMITED

Saturn emulation is particularly demanding and should not be expected to perform perfectly across the library.

i
Emulator Availability Can Change With Firmware

ArkOS and R36S community firmware builds can add, remove or update emulator cores over time. A system being supported does not mean every game on that system will run perfectly. Performance also depends on the ROM, BIOS, emulator core, graphics settings and the firmware build installed on your device.

EMULATOR FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about R36S emulators, ROM folders and system performance.

The R36S supports more than 21 classic systems through a combination of RetroArch cores and standalone emulators. The exact list varies by firmware version.
Older platforms such as NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Mega Drive, Master System, PC Engine and many arcade games generally perform very well. PlayStation is also one of the R36S's stronger 3D platforms.
Yes, but performance is game dependent. Some titles run well while others may need a different emulator, frameskip or graphics settings.
Yes, compatible emulators are available, but these systems are more demanding. Lighter games can perform well while some demanding games will have reduced performance.
Games are normally placed in their system-specific folders inside the ROM or EASYROMS partition, for example NES games in the nes folder and Game Boy Advance games in the gba folder.
ArkOS generally uses a bios folder inside the ROM storage area. Always check the documentation for the particular emulator because required filenames and BIOS versions can differ.
For systems with multiple available cores or standalone emulators, ArkOS can allow you to select a different emulator for the system or sometimes individual games. Available choices depend on your firmware build.
